Michigan State Catcher Stronger than Ever

With pitchers and catchers, a shoulder injury can often be career threatening. For Michigan State catcher Andy Johnson, a torn labrum forced him to miss all but three games of the 2009 season.

Today, less than 12 months after Dr. Cole performed labrum surgery on Johnson, the redshirt junior is not only back on the diamond—but performing at a high level.

"Last weekend my wife and I watched him play and complete two nine inning games with no issues," said Chris Johnson, Andy's father. "He feels great and is stronger than prior to the surgery."

The results of the surgery and Andy's hard work in rehab are showing up in the box scores. In a March 28 game against Oakland, Andy recorded eight putouts and gunned down two consecutive runners on the base paths. He has been instrumental in the Spartan's 10-game winning streak.

"He has worked hard and is 100 percent back into the starting role," said his father. "He is enjoying every minute of his collegiate experience."
